Adoption Procedures

CAAWS is dedicated to ending the homeless animal problem in the Baton Rouge area. By adopting out animals into forever homes, we decrease the burden on Animal Control and ensure another animal lives in peace and security. Through our adoption program, and our spay/neuter and education programs, CAAWS has the goal to place every adoptable animal in a loving home.

CAAWS has several general requirements for adopting a pet:

Normal adoption hours are from 11:00am to 3:00pm every Saturday at our adoption center for dogs and 11:00am to 4:00pm at the Petsmart on Airline for cats. Our building is located at 6357 Quinn Dr (map), right at the Old Jefferson and Tiger Bend intersection, close to Airline at Siegen/Sherwood Forest area. We also hold special adoption events throughout the Baton Rouge area (see Upcoming Events).

Adoption Cost

The adoption fee for our animals is $100. That seems like a LOT of money, doesn't it?  But consider the cost of initial vetting and what it takes just to get a healthy cat or dog ready to attend an adoption event.

$120 is the approximate total CAAWS pays for each healthy animal we take into our adoption program.  We are not in this to make money but at our new adoption rate of $100 we are still losing money on almost every animal we take in. Also, consider when animals are with us for any length of time. Then you have to work into the equation food, litter, monthly flea/heartworm preventative, and any other illness or needed vet care such as tooth extractions, prescription or special foods, heartworm treatment if they are heartworm positive, etc.
